Dr Simon Wetherell (m)

MA BM BCh (Oxon) 1985 DRCOG FRCGP
Dr Wetherell was brought up near York, and trained at both Oxford and Cambridge. Most of his General Practice training has been done in Morecambe Bay. He has worked at Queen Square since 1989. His interests include Diabetes and Research. Dr Wetherell is the senior partner of Queen Square Medical Practice. Dr Wetherell is also an honorary lecturer at the university.

Dr Jeremy Marriott (m)

MB ChB (Birmingham) 1986, FRCGP
Dr Marriott went to Medical School in Birmingham. After his training he worked mainly in the North West, but spent 15 months in Auckland, New Zealand. His interests in the practice include musculoskeletal problems, Travel Medicine and drug and alcohol rehabilitation services. He has been a partner at Queen Square since 1992.  He is Chair of the Urgent Care Board for the Lancashire North CCG.

Dr Alison Bateman (f)

MB ChB (Sheffield) 1989 DCH MRCGP
Dr Bateman was brought up in Manchester, and trained in Sheffield. After a spell working in New Zealand, she completed her GP training in Glasgow, before moving to Lancaster, where she has been with the practice since 1994. Her interests in the practice are in women's health, and Family Planning. She is a Family Planning Trainer. She works as a job- share with her husband, Dr Johnstone.


In 2008 Dr Bateman furthered her longstanding interest in women’s health by completing a Gynaecology Diploma for Practitioners with a Special Interest. Following on from this, the Healthub gynaecology, infertility and sexual health services were launched, which now take referrals from other practices in the area.

Dr Nicholas Johnstone (m)

MB ChB BSc (Dundee) 1986 MRCGP
Dr Johnstone was brought up in Bradford, and trained in Dundee. After leaving Medical School, he completed part of his General Practice Training in the UK before working as a Medical Officer in the Antarctic for a year. He then moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where he met his wife, Dr Bateman, who is also a GP in the practice. He has been a partner since 1994, and his interests include medical computing, and psychiatry. 

Dr Martin Soole (m)

MBBS (London 1986) MRCGP DRCOG DPD
Dr Martin Soole grew up in London and trained at the Royal London Hospital. He eventually arrived in Lancaster after over twenty years working as a Partner in both single-handed and group practices in London and Nottingham. His particular interest is Dermatology. He joined Queen Square Medical Practice as a Partner in February 2010.

Dr Helen Connell (f)

MB ChB (Manchester) 1995 DRCOG MRCGP DipGyn DFFP


Dr Helen Connell was born and bred in Derbyshire. She joined Queen Square medical practice in May 2001 and became a partner in April 2010. She is married to Dr Simon Connell (former partner at Queen square) and she has 2 girls.


She is a Practitioner with a special interest in genitourinary medicine and gynaecology/infertility. She completed a gynaecology diploma in 2012 and has joined Dr Bateman in her role in providing specialist GUM and gynae/fertility services to local patients at the Healthub.

Dr Brandon John (m)

MBChB (Sheffield), MRCGP, DRCOG

Dr Brandon John grew up in Manchester. He went to medical school in Sheffield, then came to Lancaster to do his GP training. He is a GP Trainer.

Dr Sam Moon (m)

MB ChB (Birmingham) 1999 BMedSc PG Dip SEM MRCGP
Dr Sam Moon joined the practice in December 2012. He studied Medicine at the University of Birmingham and completed his general practice training in the West Midlands. He has sepnt the past 5 years living in New Zealand. He has returned to the UK with his family to settle in the Lancaster area. His clinical interests are sport and exercise medicine and minor surgery. Dr Moon joined Queen Square in December 2012 and was made partner in September 2013.

Dr Rachel Woolley (f)

MBChB (Manchester), MRCP , MRCGP , DFFP
Dr Woolley grew up in Kendal, studied French & Philosophy in Edinburgh before changing tack to study Medicine at Manchester University. She worked in hospital medicine for 4 years before deciding to become a GP. She completed her GP training in York but has recently gravitated westwards again to be nearer family and the Lakeland Fells.  She is the palliative care lead for the practice. Dr Woolley became a partner at the beginning of 2015.

Dr Patrick Haslam (m)

MBBS (London) BEng MRCGP
Dr Haslam initially studied Acoustical Engineering in Southampton before training in medicine in London at Bart's & The London Medical School. After working in Somerset he completed his GP training in Lancaster and was the Registrar at Queen Square from 2015 to 2016 after which is he was made Partner. His interests are in Research and Respiratory Medicine.

Dr Fiona Stuart (f)

MBBS (London) 1987 DRCOG MRCGP
Dr Stuart was previously a partner for a number of years at a practice in the South of England before moving to Lancaster. She has been an associate GP at Queen Square since August 2002.  She has special interest in family planning and genito-urinary medicine.

Dr Chaturvedi Vare (m)

MBBS (NTR University of Health Sciences) 2003 MRCGP 2015
Dr Vare qualified in India and has been working in the UK since 2005. He has experience of working in various surgical specialities in Manchester. He completed his GP training in Lancaster. Dr Vare joined the surgery in October 2014 as an associate GP.
