Weight‑Loss Injections (GLP‑1 Medicines)

Weight‑loss injections (such as Wegovy®, Mounjaro®) are not routinely prescribed by GP practices.

The NHS is introducing these medicines gradually and for a very small number of patients through nationally commissioned specialist pathways. Eligibility is strict and depends on medical risk, not patient request.

At present:

• GPs cannot offer or start weight‑loss injections on request
• Access is limited to specific NHS services, not routine GP appointments
• Many patients will not be eligible, even if privately available

Your GP can:

• Discuss weight management options
• Offer referral to NHS weight‑management services (where available)
• Provide general lifestyle and health advice

Please do not book a GP appointment solely to request weight‑loss injections, as we will not be able to prescribe these
